The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center proudly presents the Kathryn Leach Doll Collection. This impressive doll collection, featuring nearly 750 dolls, is displayed in a spacious 1300 sq. ft. gallery, showcasing a lifetime of love and devotion not only for dolls but also for children. The Fine Arts Center aims for each visitor to experience a touch of the nostalgic innocence of childhood while gaining insight into the beautiful spirit of Kathryn Coye Leach.
At the age of 16, Kathryn Leach traveled to Europe with her parents, where she acquired a few dolls that sparked her passion for doll collecting. This marked the beginning of her lifelong dedication to amassing a diverse collection, with some dolls dating back to the 1860s. Many of the pieces were gathered during the extensive travels of the Leach family across the United States and internationally, while others were cherished gifts from family and friends. Notably, the collection includes nine miniature rooms filled with Lilliputian furnishings and dolls.
In 1992, the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center was selected by Kathryn and Julian Leach from Fort Worth, Texas, as the permanent residence for this remarkable doll collection. In July 1994, Mrs. Leach received the United Federation Doll Club’s Award of Excellence in recognition of her efforts in the protection and preservation of dolls.
